Kakuriyo -Bed & Breakfast For Spirits- Episode 7 – Anime QandA Review

An Anime QandA review for Kakuriyo -Bed & Breakfast For Spirits- Episode 7

What’s the show? Kakuriyo -Bed & Breakfast For Spirits- Episode 7.

Huh? Didn’t you decide no longer to review this show in your ‘Site Update‘ post? I did. But, if you were paying attention you’d also note that I said I reserved the right to review episodes of shows I was watching that I felt were particularly interesting and warranting of a review.

Oh yeah. So this is particularly interesting then, huh? Uh, err… well, not really actually…

Huh? Oh! Don’t get me wrong, this could very well be the best episode of this show so far, or perhaps more accurately the most ~consistent~ because let’s face it, the word ‘best’ and ‘Kakuriyo’ don’t really belong in the same sentence… unless of course you’re talking about that OP song, because it is among the best!

That blush and smile combo.

Yeah, okay. But you didn’t come all this way just to talk about how “consistent” this episode is, something’s gotta have you talking about this show other than that? Whatever I may have said about this show in the past still stands, but I will admit I was obnoxious towards this show’s existence in general. Mostly because the whole ‘Beauty & The Beast’ forced romance is like one of my least favourite narrative motifs around. So imagine my surprise, when throughout the last few episodes and specifically this episode do they not only focus on something 100x more interesting (Aoi setting up a restaurant for Ayakashi) but also manage to tie in the romance subplot with considerable degree of class and restraint—at least as far as this show is concerned.

For context he’s looking at her at eye level.

So it’s ‘Restaurant To Another World’ version 2.0? Kudos to you for remembering that show! But no, it’s nothing like that… well it’s kinda like that, but ‘Restaurant To Another World’ was phenomenal, whereas this is just ~pretty good~, and I mean that’s a marked improvement over what it had been previously. At least in my opinion.

Uh-huh, and wasn’t there some things about a hot springs and a Tanuki author and Aoi meeting with an accountant because her restaurant was failing? Oh yeah, it’s all a rich tapestry.

Dat yolk porn.

*sigh* Listen, it’s all pretty good stuff, I did like the Tanuki author who Aoi makes Bento’s for. And I do still enjoy how seemingly everyone in the Hidden Realm had *some* sort of relationship with Aoi’s grandfather Shio. And her passing annoyance at people saying that she looks so much like him—if I didn’t know any better I’d say Ayakashi can’t tell humans apart from their faces and only see what their souls look like.

I mean I know some author’s grow a lot of facial hair but this is ridiculous!

Right and is that all? I really like that for a… I’m actually not sure what genre this show is, but for a show that’s targeted toward a female demographic I’m glad there’s still so many cute female side-characters and not just a cornucopia of hot men and cute boys populating the screen. In fact at the end of this episode we get another character, although I’m guessing just a one-off appearance from a blonde loli who gives Aoi a deus-ex machina ball that makes her restaurant a success (I’m not going to fault the show on taking the easy way out, it’s set in the Hidden Realm, I’m sure stuff like this happens all the time).

“Here have this, your restaurant will now be a success, don’t ask questions just go with it.”

I don’t know how necessary this review was. I don’t know either, I just find myself interested in talking about this show more often than not and that’s gotta say something about the quality of the show, right?
