Shota In The Dark – ‘Miss Caretaker of Sunohara-sou’ Episode 2 Review

Shota In The Dark – An Anime QandA Review of ‘Miss Caretaker of Sunohara-sou’ Episode 2

What’s the show? Miss Caretaker of Sunohara-sou, Episode 2.

Hmm, oh yeah the weird show about a small boy who is being molested by a big breasted motherly type caretaker of a dorm? I mean yeah if you want to put it that way…

What do you mean?! That’s ~exactly~ how you introduced the show last episode! Did I? Hmm, I suppose I did… but you know what, this show is so unfailing sweet and cute and “nice” that I can’t help but feel mysteriously drawn to it…

Matching t-shirts!

Why do I have a feeling you’re about to say something exceedingly weird and unrelatable? I mean what’s so wrong about having a beautiful, caring, unfailingly sweet and absurdly busty woman care for you in every conceivable way and seemingly without condition?

What you’re describing is a “mother”. Should I get Freud on the phone? Listen, I don’t know about your mother but my mother was nothing like Ayaka Sunohara!

I mean a 3-legged race with that height difference does have its advantages…

Sounds like doth protest too much! Up yours, we’re talking about an anime here!

Fine, whatever, so what happens in this episode? Vague slice of life slash harem shenanigans all ‘round. Though don’t get me wrong a lot happens in this episode! In a nut shell, Ayaka wears an under boob heavy cheerleader outfit that seems to defy all kinds of laws–not just those of physics! Aki and Akaya train for the sports festival’s three legged race, they have a bath together, go shopping together, watch a horror movie together and then sleep together (non-sexually).

Right… and what about the other characters in the show? There were three other girls in the dorm last time I remembered… they’re still there! I mean, they play second fiddle at best to Akaya’s prominent feminine wiles but they still make an impression… I guess… there’s a huntsman spider that scares the girls which causes a bit of a ruckus but when it falls on Akaya’s cleavage she just carries it outside without as much as a fuss.

Do you actually like any of the other girls in this show? I like them all! Aesthetically Sumire is my favourite what with that lithe physique and black hair and Yuri tendencies… but let’s face it this show is barely maintaining the pretense of a harem, it’s 100% a budding romance between boy and boobs.

You said it—not me! Listen, I’m honestly falling for these two as a couple and I know I shouldn’t because ~problematic~ but what the hell! Both parties are painfully needing of each other and consent to whatever shenanigans befall each other and I’m totally invested here. Aesthetically it reminds me of Slow Start and while I doubt it’ll become the pinnacle of slice of life anime that that show became (for me) I am still curious to how a show like this will progress going forward.

I love anime and more recently manga too. What else do I need to write here?

  1. I’ve never heard of this show until now, and I’m just facepalming about the concept. If the genders were reversed in this anime, someone would’ve called the cops a week ago. It’s like Happy Lesson, but with caretakers/babysitters instead of teachers. [shakes head]
