Shota-gun Wedding – ‘Miss Caretaker of Sunohara-sou’ Episode 4 Review

Shota-gun Wedding – An Anime QandA Review of ‘Miss Caretaker of Sunohara-sou’ Episode 4

What’s the show? Miss Caretaker of Sunohara-sou, Episode 4.

The adventures of boobs and boy continue! That’s actually a very offensive way to refer to this show I’ll have you know!

What are you talking about? You literally referred to it as such last week! Well, ah… whatever! That was then and this is now! Can I just say, before we begin that as much as I like to make fun of this show’s central premise it is still an inherently entertaining, watchable and dare I say it… romantic kind of show.

Did I say romantic?

Uh-huh… so how much fan-service is on display in this episode that it’s got you so blinded to reality? How dare you! I’ll have you know that they, uh… the characters are all really, ah… and the plot is just, the plot is, err… um… what were we talking about again?

A-ha! I knew you’d slip up one of these days! Psh… like I even care at this point, yes this show is blisteringly pandering to a specific fetishistic demographic and yes some of it’s gender politics are downright archaic by modern standards. But you know what? It’s still well meaning and high-spirited and has that kind of soft pastel aesthetic that makes it look like the visual equivalent of a candy necklace and I kind of adore this show!

Bath times are sleepy times. Although the one on the right always has her eyes closed so…

Well as long as you’re honest about it. So what’s this episode about then? Following on somewhat from last week, we get a bit more insight to what’s in each of the girls’ mind regarding marriage and ‘being a good wife’—and as much as I kinda hate the heteronormative, patriarchal way marriage is presented in Japanese culture (and this episode does little to sway it from the norm) it was kinda cute seeing each girls interpretation—even if a couple of them were straight from the cliché anime “wife” playbook.

Why do I get the feeling you overthought this episode? Hey, you’re the one who was seemingly complaining that I had my head in my trousers while watching this show… at least expect a bit of intellectual discourse about the gender politics, I mean gosh!

You’re one strange individual… Thank you. So as I was saying we get a bit more character development from each of the girls, though because this is a story about a boy and some boobs the focus eventually and inevitably drifts from the other girls in the dorm to Ayaka, who is at her busty best throughout this episode. Like when Aki helps Ayaka patch up the roof and the two end up stuck their after the ladder falls away and all sorts of low-key sexy shenanigans happen before they are rescued.

The sexy shenanigans happen soon after I assure you!

Such as? Oh you don’t need me to go into details about it! Suffice to say there’s a lot of heads between breasts this episode, so if that’s your kink then kink away!

Any final thoughts on the episode? True while the episode does move away from the other girls they do still have a presence and make an impact on young Aki’s life—the episode is not fully dominated by Ayaka’s sizeable presence. Plus a mention of another girl to add to the “harem” is definitely of interest… I mean I know who it is based on the opening credits but still I’m interested to see how this new character is portrayed and what kind of ‘effect’ she has on little Aki’s heart.

It sounds cuter in Japanese.
