What’s the show? My Hero Academia 3rd Season, Episode 14.
So after last episode’s slice of life shenanigans, are we back into the action? More or less—though training action, which strikes a nice balance of levity and action with a bit of introspective character development too!
So it’s a good episode, yes? Yeah… I mean I still feel like this show spends way too much time on its male heroes, and while there wasn’t a dearth of content from our heroic ladies it still feels like they’re getting the short end of the stick… or maybe I’ve just kinda grown a bit tired of Midoriya as a character.

That’s a bit extreme isn’t it? He’s the lead after all. Yeah but when you have such a wealth of supporting characters both male and female it seems a bit of a waste to focus so much time and energy one on character—I mean I get it, it’s his story about how he became the “worlds greatest hero” but sometimes it feels like too much, you know?
*shrugs* you’re the one doing the talking here. So, wait I thought you liked the episode? I did, a lot, I’m just voicing concerns for the arc and series on the whole… there’s plenty of great stuff in this episode, and what’s this I spy… a new best girl?!

What?! But aren’t you like ~literally~ in love with Froppy? Yeah and I still am, I have room in my heart for two!
Right… so who’s this new girl and what’s got you so hot and bothered about her? Well she’s not new exactly; she made a few appearances in Season 2 and a brief one at the start of Season 3’s training camp arc. She’s Class B’s Hatsume, a support class hero who invents… well pretty much anything and everything to help out the heroes! And I love her personality, and her exuberance and her imagination and her, ah…
Her what? ~Nice oppai~

I’m not even a little bit surprised to be honest. But aren’t there other girls with, ahem… “nice oppai” on the show? I don’t choose the oppai the oppai chooses me…
I think we should move on before I straight up leave, there’s only so much of your bullshit I can take you know? Lol fair enough.

So anything else you want to add? I find it kind of ~odd~ that it took Midoriya so long to figure out he should use his legs to fight, I mean it’s been 3 seasons and the side never one thought “maybe I should kick things too?!” I guess worshipping All Might as much as he did really /did give him tunnel vision regarding his fighting style but I look forward to a lot more dynamic looking fights given he’s now got all 4 limbs to fight with! Also it’ll be interesting to see what other ‘signature moves’ the other Class1A heroes come up with in the next episode!

I did like this bit of revelation for Midoriya, though it seems really obvious to an outsider. I think it reflects how a lot of us get caught up in our mindset and lose sight of other possibilities. That said, I agree that the female characters in this show definitely regularly get the short end of the stick. I guess part of that is the genre, but it would be nice to see it occasionally balance out.

Yeah I don’t hold out a lot of hope for the latter, but we can hope!

Yay, good to see Best Girl Hatsume getting more attention from the community! 😸
Unfortunately, while the female heroes do get some attention, they also have a lot of wasted potential. I’m glad to see several MHA spin-off storylines, namely Vigilantes and School Briefs. Maybe someday we’ll get one that focuses more on the women’s experiences.
