Watched But Not Reviewed (Fall 2018 Week 6)

A Rundown of the anime I watched but didn’t review in Week 6 of Fall 2018

Because this season I’m watching more shows but reviewing less of them week-to-week I figured it’d make sense to at least let you all keep tabs on my brief thoughts on each episode. Just because a show is here doesn’t mean it’s any less good than any other show, it just means I didn’t have enough to say about it to justify a full review! Also, I’ll try and refrain from spoilers where possible but will give warning if I do need to post a spoiler.

Week 6

SSSS.Gridman (Episodes 1 & 2)

So I decided to give this a go for no other reason than I kept seeing so many pictures of a girl named Rikka around the internet. I must say she certainly lived up to expectations, I don’t really care about the show–it’s kinda lame and kinda boring (to me) but I might keep watching it for Rikka.

Among other things.

Space Battleship Tiramisu Zwei (Episode 7)

This show always seems to provide unexpected laughs, which are sometimes the best kind. Subaru Beyond getting locked out of his mech and having to be “rescued” by the locksmith that lives in the mech’s knee (because it’s so big) had me in stitches laughing, the whole scene had masterful comic timing. The rest of the episode was good, but more of the same.

This made me laugh so hard.

Banana Fish (Episode 19)

Eiji steps up and rallies the troops to save Ash from the evil clutches of Golzine, people ally with different people, pieces are put in place for an undoubtedly brutal showdown and Ash delivers a powerful rebuttal to Golzine’s plans to “adopt” him. Not the best episode but a bit more consistent then some previous weeks.

Eiji really comes into his own in this episode. Good boy!

Ms. vampire who lives in my neighbourhood. (Episode 6)

Adorable. Simply adorable. Oh, you want a proper review? Um, Sakuya, another of Akari’s classmates comes over to interview Sophie the vampire for her occult club at school–cute vaguely gay shenanigans ensue! Then they go shopping for new outfits for each other and cute vaguely gay shenanigans ensue.

Too bad they stopped her before she did…

Boarding School Juliet (Episode 6)

The school sports festival begins proper and it’s a lot more brutal than I expected–although considering these two factions of the school have regular punch-ups I shouldn’t be too surprised. Another great episode with high tension, inventive shenanigans and genuine character development.

Skull-face Bookseller Honda-san (Episode 6)

Not as funny as last week but still contained a bunch of laugh-out-loud moments. Great references to other series’ scattered throughout and whenever Honda-san has to deal with “difficult” customers over the phone its a relatable joy to watch!

Close enough.

As Miss Beezlebub Likes (Episode 6)

Unfortunately it’s an episode dealing with the two most bland characters, our two leads. I almost fell asleep because watching more than a minute of these two characters interacting is equivalent to a sleeping pill–and here we got 20+ minutes. The only reason I’m watching this show is for the side characters.

About the most interesting thing that happened all episode.

Zombie Land Saga (Dropped At Episode 2)

The Girl In Twilight (Dropped At Episode 4)

And that’s the week of anime I’m calling ‘Week 5’ if you have any more questions about these episodes and specific thoughts I had on specific scenes, leave me a comment below!

I love anime and more recently manga too. What else do I need to write here?

  1. Hey CM! It’s been a while, but I’m glad to say hi again.

As for the piece, it’s interesting to see what shows are out there seasonally. I’m not actually a big seasonal watch guy- I might pick one show with my limited time and run with it- but these sort of insights are interesting, week by week. Picked up Gridman with a friend (and yeah, Rikka is great), but I’m in wait and see mode on what I think of that show until the season wraps up. Hopefully I’ll have some thoughts then- and I’ll be keeping an eye on this column!

    1. Hello, glad to see you around again! I might wait til Gridman is finished and binge it but who knows maybe I’ll get tempted and watch a couple episodes here and there. I look forward to reading your thoughts on the show! Thanks for commenting!

  2. I loved Ash’s reaction to Golzine’s plans to adopt him. Best breakdown ever. Okay, it was kind of heart breaking and yet fantastic to watch at the same time. I said it in my weekly overview, Banana Fish doesn’t make a lot of sense when you really think about the plot, but it is fantastic to watch regardless.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts on these ones. I’m still waiting for Space Battleship Tiramisu Zwei to get a few more episodes ahead and then I plan to binge it.
