What’s the show? Anima Yell! Episode 8.
So how’s this episode? Hmm, I’m not sure.
Oh no… what’s wrong now… Nothing’s wrong with the episode per se~, its more or less on-point with how the show’s been travelling the last few episodes which is to say very good, consistently entertaining, and not to mention–
–Don’t say it! Kawaii desu~!

Ugh. Hurry up and get to the “but”! But, this new girl they’ve introduced (I say introduced but she’s been lurking since the start of the series) I’m not sure how I feel about her… I mean she’s cute I guess and she’s funny I guess…
Spit it out! What’s the problem?! She’s the worst kind of tsun and I don’t want her to ruin this pure and wholesome show for me!

You’re going to have to explain this in more detail for me… there are different kinds of “tsun”? Of course there is! But I’m not sure what it’s about her but she just pisses me off and I’m usually pretty okay with tsundere characters in general–even the irrationally violent ones–but her whole attitude towards Kohane, Uki and Kotetsu just put me off-base from the start and if she was like that around ~everyone~ and had good reason to be so that’d be fine but the fact that she becomes a starry-eyed mess around Hizume just made her behavior to the others more annoying.
Is this going to become a thing, like am I going to have to worry about… what’s her name? Kana.

–Am I going to have to worry about Kana rants for the rest of these reviews?! I don’t know to be honest. Will she soften and become more amiable towards the other three? Probably. But what I’m personally worried about is her spoiling the well-established group dynamic.
Not to be rude but it seems like you’ve put way too much thought into this CGDCT show… Probably. I’ll probably be completely fine with her next week and pretend like this review never even happened, that’s kind of what I’m like, isn’t it?

Just a bit. So, uh, overall–excluding new girl Kana–what are your thoughts on this episode? It’s full of energy, there’s a bunch of great little comedic moments that had me laughing out loud, lots of great one-liners and character moments and even the cheer routine was a toe-tapping joy to watch! We got more Basketball Senpai (Great!) We got a brief appearance by lesbian girl who’s dating her tutor (Great!) So you know, all in all a great episode… great episode… just don’t spoil this for me Kana! I ~need~ this wholesome goodness in my life, damn it!

I didn’t think Kana was that bad. I thought they did ok showing that she’s coming from a place where she really cares about Hizume, but just doesn’t have all the facts to understand the situation. And by being around the group, she starts to learn that it’s not Kohane mooching off of Hizume, but that it’s the two of them getting something they want from the other, mostly friendship. I thought it was good that they had Kana back off from her Hizume worship pretty quickly and read the atmosphere in the group. And it was also really nice to see Hizume having that bit of reflection about her old self, how she didn’t see the people around her, and maybe it wasn’t just that the others were losers who resented her being better just because they weren’t as good.

I can see getting worried about Kana, the way she blew into the show. Especially after Midorin is ruining UzaMaid, too. And first impressions are hard to kick, so I don’t think it’s too out of bounds to be worried about her effect on the show. But I think she’ll end up being fine. She kind of strikes me the same as Yukari Akiyama in Girls und Panzer: shows up for the Miho worship, stays because she loves tanks.
