Hungry For Blood – ‘That Time I Got Reincarnated As A Slime’ Episode 12 Review

Hungry For Blood – An Anime QandA Review of ‘That Time I Got Reincarnated As A Slime’ Episode 12

What’s the show? That Time I Got Reincarnated As A Slime, Episode 12.

So how’s this episode? I’ll at least try and reign in the shouting voices in my head, the one side screaming about how much I love Shion and the other side, just as loudly, about how much I hate the lizardmen.

You are what you eat!

Ah, so I take it we get some of both in this episode? Not enough Shion, too much lizardmen! Down with lizardmen!

Protect Shion’s smile!

Okay, we get it! Geez, so what happens in this episode? Well it pretty much continues on at the exact point it ended last week with the Treyni the Dryad requesting assistance of Rimuru to defeat the oncoming orc army. And I liked that they gave us a bit of backstory to who the dryad are as a race and their place in society–turns out they’re kind of a big deal. I also liked her eating a potato chip, small detail to focus on but I like it when anime have their characters ~doing things~ while talking or being talked to and not just standing there like a mindless NPC. She also imparts some important information, namely that like they assumed the orcs are being commanded by an ‘orc lord’–which is bad and also as a result the orcs have acquired the “Starved” unique skill which basically means they’re sustaining solely on the bodies of their enemies and the fallen to gain sustenance and acquire strength.

Elf savagely attacks defenseless potato chip!

That’s a bit grim. It is, but it also ups the ante a little which is good. So Rimuru sends out Souei to negotiate with the lizardmen chieftain (but not before fan-girling over how stoic and handsome he is) and then the rest of the episode is more or less with the lizardmen so I kind of had trouble keeping my attention.

To be fair he is ridiculously handsome.

That’s not a good thing for a reviewer to do you know. Okay I’m exaggerating, I don’t mind the lizardmen chieftain, he seems like a down-to-earth and reasonable guy and the scene with him “negotiating” with Souei is pretty good! Than the tiresome Gabiru shows up to usurp his father’s rule and at this point I was just begging for the annoying twerp to get eaten by an orc.

Smug face engage.

That sure is some grudge you’ve got against him… but wasn’t Gabiru going to take over ~after~ they’d defeated the orc army? You remember. Yes, that’s correct but a mysterious messenger of Gelmuld–the man who ‘named’ Gabiru–shows up and convinces him to do so earlier. I liked this creepy bastard Laplace, he reminded me a bit of Papa Lazarou from ‘The League of Gentlemen’ (there’s a reference none of my readers will get!) so I hope we see more of his shenanigans.

“Hello, Dave?”

Anything else you wanted to add? I’m thinking that Gabiru’s going to have to get a major character adjustment from having witnessed the full brutality of the orc army in order for me to even remotely like him as a character. Hopefully that happens or he just ~goes away~, because I don’t really enjoy the scenes with him in at all which is a shame because literally everything else in this show is great and I look forward to it each week! Also, more Shion please!

If being held under Shion’s boobs meant me being a slime, I’d be a slime 24/7.

I love anime and more recently manga too. What else do I need to write here?

Man, I’m glad you said something. I was afraid I was the only one! The only negative thing I could say is that I almost prefer Shion in her full ogre state… But I’m not complaining!
