Watched But Not Reviewed (Fall 2018 Week 11)

A Rundown of the anime I watched but didn’t review in Week 11 of Fall 2018

Because this season I’m watching more shows but reviewing less of them week-to-week I figured it’d make sense to at least let you all keep tabs on my brief thoughts on each episode. Just because a show is here doesn’t mean it’s any less good than any other show, it just means I didn’t have enough to say about it to justify a full review! Also, I’ll try and refrain from spoilers where possible but will give warning if I do need to post a spoiler.

Week 11

Himote House (Episodes 7-9)

The strength of these 3 episodes is not to be taken lightly and exemplifies everything great about this series (almost) no one seems to be talking about. Not only did we get a starkly realistic look of what it means to be gay in Japan (from not having your international marriage recognised by Japanese government officials, to finding it difficult to rent a place as a “couple” and not being recognised as a spouse in a hospital) we also got a distinctly unique look at the world inside a photocopier that was as genius as it was unexpected (not to even mention an ‘Asobi Asobase’ reference that floored me). Man I love this show, more anime comedy fans should check it out!

Who left all these untextured 3D objects around?!

Space Battleship Tiramisu Zwei (Episode 12)

Turns out the antagonist of this series is actually just a guy whose wife has left him and now he’s going to blow up Earth just so he doesn’t have to go to ‘Family Court’. This was ridiculous to the extreme and also somehow completely par for the course for this show. Many laughs were had… I’ll miss it once it’s gone…

Reasonable bad guy motivations.

Banana Fish (Episode 24)

Banana Fish ended with its best episode of the whole season (in my opinion) that delivered on the action and the consequences of a life lived in violence. Apparently there are people upset with the ending but I thought it was pretty much perfect. I still have my reservations about the series as a whole but when it comes to final episodes this was close to perfect and I like it more the more I think about it.

Nothing witty for this caption.

Ms. vampire who lives in my neighbourhood. (Episode 11)

Naww so much cuteness! And I could absolutely relate to Sophie’s plight of having ‘too much stuff’ and needing to throw stuff out while simultaneously wanting to buy more things. Consumerism is the real villain! Also the common cold rears its ugly head as Akari catches one and its all hands on deck as we go down with the ‘ship. (See what I did there?)

Vampires: so many useful features!

Boarding School Juliet (Episode 11)

Birthday party shenanigans! This episode was exactly the right side of silly and it made it all the more endearing. What’s more we’re introduced to two new characters this late in the game, and I’m suddenly left thinking “please can we have a second season?”

Well and truly “cornered”.

Skull-face Bookseller Honda-san (Episode 11)

Honda-san takes a turn for the fantastical as the first half of the episode envisions what things would be like if they lived in the ~spirit world~. I admire the ambition and appreciate them wanting to do something different, but this show doesn’t have the time or budget to indulge in such flights of whimsy and thus falls flat. The second segment returns us to the real world and is far more solid for it.

Retail lyf.

As Miss Beezlebub Likes (Episode 11)

Moving the focus to Gocchin and Azazel for the episode meant I was at least more invested than I normally would be as they are this show’s golden couple. Or rather should be more than this show is willing to allow. This kind of episode is exactly why I don’t watch romance anime as I hate the constant ‘back and forth but end up nowhere’ styles of relationships. I just want them to start dating already! I did love learning more about Adramemelech and Morrigan–more of them please!

I mean when you word it like that it almost sounds like a fetish…

Zombie Land Saga (Dropped At Episode 2)

The Girl In Twilight (Dropped At Episode 4)

I love anime and more recently manga too. What else do I need to write here?
