The Anime QandA Search Terms of 2018

A look at what search terms led people to find Anime QandA in 2018

So as I’m sure many of you are aware WordPress has this slightly amazing (if not completely flawless) way of detecting the ‘search terms’ which lead the randos of the internet to finding your blog/website. Of course, it doesn’t include ‘Google’ search results because ~reasons~ but it does include every other search engine. And apparently that’s where all their weirdos hang out because I swear the majority of my search terms in 2018 were either specifically perverted or just pervertedly specific! Let’s take a look at some, shall we?! This post was inspired by Irina’s of the same nature, take a look at hers please, it’s substantially more ‘unique’ than mine!

Also, much like Irina’s post I’ll be dividing this up into categories as I see fit! First off:

It’s All About Boobs

Make no mistake, anime and boobs go together like, peanut butter and jam (apparently, I don’t know I’m Australian, we don’t eat those two things together). But yeah, in case you missed it last year I did a post about the 10 Biggest Boobs In Anime and unsurprisingly that was my 2nd most searched for post–Garnering 1,437 views! But all sorts of ways got people to find that post, let’s take a look at a few!

  • https://animeqanda.com/2018/05/28/10-biggest-boobs-in-anime-listing-compulsive/amp/18 somehow this was my biggest search term of the year, 80(!) of them and its literally just a web address for the post? Do people not know how browser bars work?
  • biggest boobs in anime yep, that’s what it was called, next!
  • breasts in anime 2018 yes there were breasts in 2018 anime too, and 2019 I’m guessing too!
  • biggest boobs in animr I mean the ‘R’ key is very close to the ‘E’ key so I suppose this is forgivable…
  • big boob anime why do I feel like a caveman wrote this?
  • biggest breasts manga close but no cigar!
  • big booby anime school girl I don’t remember the last time someone refereed to them as ‘booby’ but thanks for the nostalgia trip!
  • largest breast in anime I bet this person was British. #justsayin… (also why singular use of breast, rather than breasts?)
  • biggest anime boob ever AGAIN why with the singular?!
  • list of anime big boobs character ‘making a list, checking it twice…’
  • list of biggest boobs in animes I love me some “animes”
  • the biggest boobs in anime history well now you’re just making me regret what I called the post with such grandiose language!
  • monstrous boobs anime I mean “monstrous” is just so evocative
  • top 10 big tits hentai womens names “I need names, damn it!”
  • boobs anime yep, that’s the two things!
  • top 10 biggest tits hentai I’m not covering hentai content… yet…

What Controversy?!

Remember when ‘Goblin Slayer’ was controversial? I sure do, because I managed to rack up 1500+ views on my Episode 1 review in the space of a single week! I doubt I’ll ever see those kind of numbers in such a short time again, but with said numbers came search results!

  • goblin slayer rape scene this was my number 1 Goblin Slayer search term with 11 hits, succinct and to the point you could say!
  • goblin slayer sex ummm… not quite
  • goblin slayer rape correct!
  • goblin slayer episode 4 elf one eye closed you mean a wink right?! It’s called a wink!
  • goblin slayer has a rape scene no way!
  • goblin slayer episode 1 rape? that question mark is triggering me so hard right now…
  • hentai goblin slasher sounds like a porn parody
  • qanda qoblindo like the sound of a ‘qoblin’ its like a goblin with a speech impediment!
  • goblin slayer episode 1 uncensored excuse me?! What exactly do you want more explicit about that episode? Oh the rape… right…
  • goblin slayer uncensored ep1 stop

My Sister, My Writer? My God!

So apparently covering ‘My Sister, My Writer’ on a weekly basis was a good idea because I got literally thousands of views for this show each month. And I doubt any of them were searching because of the plot!

  • https://animeqanda.com/2018/11/09/my-sister-my-writer-episode-5-review/amp/13 with 18 views this was the second highest searched result of the year… and again it’s a literal address as opposed to key words. Wut.
  • my sister, my writer episode 1 uncensored “down with censorship” is pretty much the theme of this particular category
  • my sister, my writer fanservice not much of that I’m afraid, the show is kinda dull in that respect!
  • my sister my writer bad animation but yes, it did have that.
  • my sister my writer nude wait, you want the whole show nude?
  • my sister my writer naked again?!
  • my sister my writer anime nudity gotta get ‘dem nudes!
  • my sister my writer what is it about incest, next!
  • my sister my writer anime ahegao double peace well she is the best character!
  • my sister my writer unscenaord oh, you tried…
  • my sister my writer be dub lol no, never in a billion years
  • incest anime gifs I can only assume this is related. Heh! “Related”!
  • horny+loli sister my writer yep that about sums it up!
  • my sister – my writer uncensored moments just the moments, you can keep the rest
  • my sister my writer episode 7 not is that you Borat?
  • when will my sister my writer be uncensored you just gotta believe! But seriously it’s called the AT-X version and you can get it via torrent. It’s that easy.

Assorted Perverts

I mean what else are people on the internet for other than sex? What other possible use does this technology have?! Please tell!

  • konosuba boobs gifs Yes I want them too!
  • shina aki sex not quite, well not yet anyway…
  • naked women anime when you word it like that it just sounds strange!
  • christmas shota a shota’s not just for Christmas!
  • the master of ragnarok & blesser of einherjar twins naked with big ass …excuse me?
  • the master of ragnarok sex nope, never happened
  • anime girl bath too many to choose from!
  • bo y doing each other it’s the unintentional space in the word ‘boy’ that makes this search term a winner
  • hentai narusawa riyouka now you’ve got me curious…
  • older sister straight shota this isn’t pornhub!
  • cattleya boob they are impressive
  • that time i got reincarnated as a slime girls naked I’d like this too? Where can I get this? Oh right not on my site…
  • shera greenwood gif boobs it’s the gif that keeps on giving
  • sexy ogre prior to ‘That Time I Got Reincarnated As A Slime’ I would have thought this search term silly, now I can only nod agreeing while thinking of Shion.
  • momen seksi dxd hero I don’t speak Indonesian but I understood that perfectly
  • anime girl with abs *new fetish acquired*
  • anime belly button now that’s very specific
  • anime girl enema this is because I titled a Chio’s School Road ep review ‘Public Enema Number One’ isn’t it?
  • naked pictures from the master of ragnarok & blesser of einherjar rule 34 didn’t anyone ever tell you to make your search terms short?!
  • murcielago sex as in the manga? or the sports car?
  • a loli a day keeps the doctor away?
  • how not to summon a demon lord fingering ~oof
  • island anime had sex “and it felt so good!”
  • chio’s school road nude It’s out there, just not on my site (sorry)

  • senran kagura shinobi master nipple just the one, that’s all I need!
  • franxx strelitzia hentai robot porn, sure why not
  • anime tongue kissing LEWD

Question Time

Sometimes people have very specific questions and I can only hope that my site offers them a degree of enlightenment. If not I will proceed to answer those questions, right now! (Minor spoilers for shows that aired last year)

  • rascal does not dream of bunny girl senpai age you need to know for “research” purposes I’m sure, she’s a third year in high school so let’s say 17.
  • island anime did setsuna have sex with rinne well spoilers but yeah. But it’s complicated!
  • how not to summon a demon lord where does diablo put his fingers in rem you’re really needing me to spell it out? In her vagina. Next!
  • best ghost waifu now I need to make that into a list! Oh, let’s just say Yuuna for the sake of answering this question.
  • does ayaka miss caretaker loves akkkun too many ‘k’s in the name but yes she probably does.
  • serial killer loli anime 2018 that’d no doubt be ‘Happy Sugar Life’ but what a way to describe it…
  • bang dream vs love live bang dream.
  • is angel of death really scary anime that’s subjective, but personally I only saw 2 episodes and it wasn’t really.
  • that time i got reincarnated as a slime will shizu ever return? hey look an actual question mark! I mean it’s a fantasy series so I wouldn’t rule anything out but I’m going to say sadly probably not.
  • aki shina really a boy I mean I know he’s petite and cute but that’s kind of mean, of course he is!
  • sunohara-sou are you really a boy yes! Stop asking!
  • märchen mädchen what happen? a hurried production time, a director quitting and being replaced with an inexperienced one, just basically every bad thing that could happen to an anime production.
  • how much time passed in darling in the franx a lot.
  • does yuuna and the haunted hot springs have an uncensored version yes, it’s on blu-ray in Japan.
  • the master of ragnarok does felicia have sex with someone else umm, she doesn’t have sex with anyone as far as I’m aware!
  • what anime does a girl like another girl and likes coffins maybe ‘Ms Vampire who lives in my neighbourhood’? But what a strange way to word it…
  • best waifu to start out with this is the single most perplexing question I got this year. Like is this an alien trying to figure out how to fit in with Earth otaku culture? Or is this someone trying to go undercover as a weeb? Mate, you don’t pick a waifu, there’s no guide, you watch anime… any anime and the waifus will come to you.

Nani?

Sometimes people know exactly what they want but that doesn’t help me much. I didn’t get many but these were the more perplexing search terms of the year…

  • heds cool dxd born animeq I’m sorry you’ll need to repeat yourself?
  • anime mild born to be mild?
  • futaba rascal does not “Oh hi Mark!”
  • manga pony play I don’t even want to know!
  • kyodan what?
  • bachelorette blake instagram ~why~
  • hare bikini fanservice what, as in like a rabbit?
  • muck definition I don’t even know how you got to my site by searching this…

And that’s it for 2018 search terms, I spent way longer on this than I should have so hopefully it provided some entertainment for you! Feel free to share some of your weirdest/funniest/most random search terms in the comments below!

Watched But Not Reviewed (Fall 2018 Week 12)

A Rundown of the anime I watched but didn’t review in Week 12 of Fall 2018

Because this season I’m watching more shows but reviewing less of them week-to-week I figured it’d make sense to at least let you all keep tabs on my brief thoughts on each episode. Just because a show is here doesn’t mean it’s any less good than any other show, it just means I didn’t have enough to say about it to justify a full review! Also, I’ll try and refrain from spoilers where possible but will give warning if I do need to post a spoiler. Also, look at all those season finales!

Week 12

Goblin Slayer (Episode 11)

Goblin Slayer delivered what I like to call a ‘so close’ to being great episode, what with the sense of bringing like-minded people together to fight a common enemy, it was very satisfying. Until it was gross and problematic again, this show really doesn’t know how to be subtle, does it?

The only reason I’m still watching this show is to make sure she makes it out okay.

Himote House (Episodes 10, 11 and 12 Finale)

Excellent as always, but I was thinking, maybe the reason that Episode 12 got re-worked into a clip-show at the last minute wasn’t because “production issues” but because this is going to get a 2nd season?! Oh, a boy can dream, can’t he? The bitcoin/blockchain episode was a highlight of not just this show but the whole damn anime season! Seriously this show was hilarious from beginning to end, and even when it wasn’t laugh out loud funny it never failed to put a big dumb smile on my face–even the hastily cobbled together final episode was funnier than most shows and had heart too. What a show!

I need to hurry and invest in bitcoin! *girlish moans*

Space Battleship Tiramisu Zwei (Episode 13 Finale)

There’s still OVA’s to come but this is the end for the second series and what a ride it’s been. Probably more consistent than the first season, if not quite as original a concept. This final episode gives a big-budget send-off while still retaining the comic charm the series is known for, I wouldn’t say no to a 3rd season!

Can we have a spinoff with the girls from this show? No reason…

Ms. vampire who lives in my neighbourhood. (Episode 12 Finale)

It’s been Akari’s dream to get her blood sucked by Sophie (or if not Sophie than even Ellie would do) as Akari’s kind of a pervert for that kind of thing apparently. And so when all the blood supplies in the house run dry and there’s not going to be a delivery for several days Akari offers her life blood but is once again turned down. But it’s not because they don’t appreciate it or her, it’s because they don’t want to become dependent on someone they consider an important part of their life. This episode is really sweet, and even though I totally would have been down for some yuri neck sucking action, taking the wholesome route worked in the show’s favour overall.

Couldn’t agree more!

Boarding School Juliet (Episode 12 Finale)

The series that consistently surprised with its quality, unsurprisingly had an excellent final episode too. The stakes and drama were high and while there was no tragic ‘Romeo and Juliet’-style ending the ending we did get still pulled on the heartstrings. More of this show please!

~~~feels~~~
Skull-face Bookseller Honda-san (Episode 12 Finale)
Honda-san wraps–rather appropriately–with an episode all about closing up shop for the night. Not the funniest off episodes but that’s not really what they were going for and so I appreciate the slightly melancholic vibe that it had.
Oh man, too real. The amount of times this happened to me at my old job… PTSD!
As Miss Beezlebub Likes (Episode 12 Finale)
The final episode had probably one of the most bizarre instances of long-running product placement I’ve ever seen in anime and likewise delivered the most laugh-out-loud moments because of it. I don’t know if it was intentional or not but I will now and forever associate KFC with ‘As Miss Beezlebub Likes’. Oh and the episode was pretty good too. More Gocchin pls!
Watched But Not Reviewed (Fall 2018 Week 11)
A Rundown of the anime I watched but didn’t review in Week 11 of Fall 2018
Because this season I’m watching more shows but reviewing less of them week-to-week I figured it’d make sense to at least let you all keep tabs on my brief thoughts on each episode. Just because a show is here doesn’t mean it’s any less good than any other show, it just means I didn’t have enough to say about it to justify a full review! Also, I’ll try and refrain from spoilers where possible but will give warning if I do need to post a spoiler.
Week 11
Himote House (Episodes 7-9)
The strength of these 3 episodes is not to be taken lightly and exemplifies everything great about this series (almost) no one seems to be talking about. Not only did we get a starkly realistic look of what it means to be gay in Japan (from not having your international marriage recognised by Japanese government officials, to finding it difficult to rent a place as a “couple” and not being recognised as a spouse in a hospital) we also got a distinctly unique look at the world inside a photocopier that was as genius as it was unexpected (not to even mention an ‘Asobi Asobase’ reference that floored me). Man I love this show, more anime comedy fans should check it out!
Who left all these untextured 3D objects around?!
Space Battleship Tiramisu Zwei (Episode 12)
Turns out the antagonist of this series is actually just a guy whose wife has left him and now he’s going to blow up Earth just so he doesn’t have to go to ‘Family Court’. This was ridiculous to the extreme and also somehow completely par for the course for this show. Many laughs were had… I’ll miss it once it’s gone…
Reasonable bad guy motivations.
Banana Fish (Episode 24)
Banana Fish ended with its best episode of the whole season (in my opinion) that delivered on the action and the consequences of a life lived in violence. Apparently there are people upset with the ending but I thought it was pretty much perfect. I still have my reservations about the series as a whole but when it comes to final episodes this was close to perfect and I like it more the more I think about it.
Nothing witty for this caption.
Ms. vampire who lives in my neighbourhood. (Episode 11)
Naww so much cuteness! And I could absolutely relate to Sophie’s plight of having ‘too much stuff’ and needing to throw stuff out while simultaneously wanting to buy more things. Consumerism is the real villain! Also the common cold rears its ugly head as Akari catches one and its all hands on deck as we go down with the ‘ship. (See what I did there?)
Vampires: so many useful features!
Boarding School Juliet (Episode 11)
Birthday party shenanigans! This episode was exactly the right side of silly and it made it all the more endearing. What’s more we’re introduced to two new characters this late in the game, and I’m suddenly left thinking “please can we have a second season?”
Well and truly “cornered”.
Skull-face Bookseller Honda-san (Episode 11)
Honda-san takes a turn for the fantastical as the first half of the episode envisions what things would be like if they lived in the ~spirit world~. I admire the ambition and appreciate them wanting to do something different, but this show doesn’t have the time or budget to indulge in such flights of whimsy and thus falls flat. The second segment returns us to the real world and is far more solid for it.
Retail lyf.
As Miss Beezlebub Likes (Episode 11)
Moving the focus to Gocchin and Azazel for the episode meant I was at least more invested than I normally would be as they are this show’s golden couple. Or rather should be more than this show is willing to allow. This kind of episode is exactly why I don’t watch romance anime as I hate the constant ‘back and forth but end up nowhere’ styles of relationships. I just want them to start dating already! I did love learning more about Adramemelech and Morrigan–more of them please!
I mean when you word it like that it almost sounds like a fetish…
Watched But Not Reviewed (Fall 2018 Week 10)
A Rundown of the anime I watched but didn’t review in Week 10 of Fall 2018
Because this season I’m watching more shows but reviewing less of them week-to-week I figured it’d make sense to at least let you all keep tabs on my brief thoughts on each episode. Just because a show is here doesn’t mean it’s any less good than any other show, it just means I didn’t have enough to say about it to justify a full review! Also, I’ll try and refrain from spoilers where possible but will give warning if I do need to post a spoiler.
Week 10
Himote House (Episodes 1-6)
This was originally on my list to watch this season but I postponed it when I found out it was a short anime. But for some reason I misinformed myself as I thought it was only a 5 minute anime, whereas had I known it was a 12 minute anime I’d have watched it week-to-week. I’m especially annoyed that I waited to binge because it’s a terrifically funny, ridiculous and at times endearing show. Plus it’s fun to watch a show about “women of age” as they put it because their dilemmas are a lot different to the dilemmas of school-aged girls in the anime I usually watch! Would recommend for people who liked comedies like ‘Asobi Asobase’ and ‘Pop Team Epic’ (but it’s not nearly as aggressive as either). Also, it kind of reminds me (of what little I’ve seen) of the Japanese reality show ‘Terrace House’ except this is much better.
I love these eccentric 3D anime women and their relationship problems!
Goblin Slayer (Episode 10)
This was my favourite episode yet, but that’s not saying much. Though it does continue to do a lot of annoying things that always put me at arms length, like stop teasing a much more interesting show by giving snippets of the badass all-female team that defeated the demon lord and then cutting to such mundane, mediocre stuff happening in the narrative we’re watching. (And yes, I know that’s the point, don’t @ me…)
Drunk elf is best elf.
Space Battleship Tiramisu Zwei (Episode 11)
Someone in my twitter feed mentioned this episode referenced a couple of other mecha anime very directly and said that was the source of the comedy so I was concerned as my mecha anime knowledge is practically zero. But with that said I still enjoyed this episode quite a bit!
It’s a dick joke!
Banana Fish (Episode 23)
The drama came hard and heavy with this episode and while that was appreciated there were a couple of character backstories that made me shake my head in annoyance as they relied upon one of my least favourite storytelling tropes that this show has indulged in a couple of times already throughout the show. That ending ‘twist’ though (if you want to call it that) had my jaw on the floor and if it wasn’t ~faked~ like the doubting part of my brain seems to think then this show deserves a round of applause.
Yeah, I teared up at this moment, so what!
Ms. vampire who lives in my neighbourhood. (Episode 10)
All of the parties! First a Halloween party (adorable and funny), then a Christmas party (adorable and funny) and then a New Year’s party (adorable and funny). Plus it was rife with ‘shipping material, so gotta enjoy that!
Ellie’s Halloween costume tho…
Boarding School Juliet (Episode 10)
Family drama and high-stakes relationship moments were the order of the day here! It was interesting to see Inazuka’s brother Airu in more detail, though as if his and Persia’s relationship needed any more obstacles–but I guess that’s the point considering the story we’re watching! Not my favourite episode but still consistently very good, and the cute loli twins remain a highlight!
Best girl(s).
Skull-face Bookseller Honda-san (Episode 10)
I’ve made the recurrent point regarding this show that it’s funnier and better when it focuses on the ‘customer service’ aspect of book-selling rather than the ‘behind the scenes’ stuff but this episode almost came as close to the quality it is at it’s best despite being very about the ~inner workings~ of bookstores. So kudos to that!
Jack O Lantern Midoriya is certainly a strong look!
As Miss Beezlebub Likes (Episode 10)
Speaking of recurrent points, this show’s best when its focusing on its side characters and the first half with Sargatanas ‘falling for’ Astaroth was very good, while the latter half with Bell and Mullin was ~just okay~.
I agree! It’s the most interesting thing about you!
Zombie Land Saga (Dropped At Episode 2)
The Girl In Twilight (Dropped At Episode 4)
Watched But Not Reviewed (Fall 2018 Week 9)
A Rundown of the anime I watched but didn’t review in Week 9 of Fall 2018
Because this season I’m watching more shows but reviewing less of them week-to-week I figured it’d make sense to at least let you all keep tabs on my brief thoughts on each episode. Just because a show is here doesn’t mean it’s any less good than any other show, it just means I didn’t have enough to say about it to justify a full review! Also, I’ll try and refrain from spoilers where possible but will give warning if I do need to post a spoiler.
Week 9
Goblin Slayer (Episode 9)
At this point the only reason I’m still watching is to add this to my completed anime list. There’s very little enjoyment I get out of this series so I won’t bore you with complaints, the only scene of any interest was the one between Sword Maiden and Goblin Slayer and despite some interesting dialogue still managed to be ~problematic~.
Well, duh.
Space Battleship Tiramisu Zwei (Episode 10)
The comedy in this episode was very specific, and sometimes that can make it difficult to land but for me it was absolutely perfect… I was laughing so much from beginning to end and it managed to introduce some actually “dramatic” plot elements too!
The sushi restaurant scene was extremely relatable and ridiculous!
Banana Fish (Episode 22)
I won’t go into spoilers for obvious reasons but despite the dramatic upheaval at the end of the episode, I kind of didn’t feel anything. I was way more sad about what happened to Ash earlier in the episode. Still a high energy, high drama episode–even if I felt some of the animation felt a bit ~looser~ this week.
I shed a couple of tears at this moment at the very least.
Ms. vampire who lives in my neighbourhood. (Episode 9)
A really fun and light-hearted episode (though most of them are so I’m not sure why I even brought that up). The two vampire’s visit Akari’s school cultural festival which is filled with the requisite shenanigans then in an extended after credit sequence Sophie tries to confront her fear of baths at a hot springs. It might not sound like much but this episode was filled with great little character moments, charming interactions and even some laugh-out-loud gags.
Spend enough time alive and even a loli vampire will begin acting like a dirty old man.
Boarding School Juliet (Episode 9)
Another really solid episode from a show that’s so far not really put a foot wrong. Having Inuzuka have to play the role of Char’s escort was good fun, but also managed to soften my overall feelings for a character who had been up to that point kind of inhumanly cold. Plus the cliffhanger involving Inuzuka’s older brother is very interesting and has made me eagerly await the next episode!
I’ve seen Juliet’s underpants, these are not Juliet’s underpants.
Skull-face Bookseller Honda-san (Episode 9)
Like I’ve said previously this show is at its best when it’s dealing with the day-to-day insanity of dealing with customers so the fact that this has a bit of both that and the behind-the-scenes publisher stuff means its a bit inconsistent. Still quite a few chuckle worthy moments to be had!
A cardinal sin!
As Miss Beezlebub Likes (Episode 9)
Mullin and Bell weren’t nearly as insufferable as they had been in past episodes but they were still the weakest part of an otherwise decent episode with the interactions between Azazel and Gocchin being a particular highlight. Gocchin best girl!
One day her prince will come (hopefully…)
Zombie Land Saga (Dropped At Episode 2)
The Girl In Twilight (Dropped At Episode 4)
Watched But Not Reviewed (Fall 2018 Week 8)
A Rundown of the anime I watched but didn’t review in Week 8 of Fall 2018
Because this season I’m watching more shows but reviewing less of them week-to-week I figured it’d make sense to at least let you all keep tabs on my brief thoughts on each episode. Just because a show is here doesn’t mean it’s any less good than any other show, it just means I didn’t have enough to say about it to justify a full review! Also, I’ll try and refrain from spoilers where possible but will give warning if I do need to post a spoiler.
Week 8
Goblin Slayer (Episode 8)
In theory this episode oughta have been right up my alley (or at least adjacent to said alley) what with the low-key slice of life shenanigans such as Goblin Slayer getting ice cream with Priestess and fixing armour and what not. But I just really don’t care, not even Goblin Slayer in bed with two naked women and a face reveal could muster much interest from me. I wasn’t bored by the episode, but nor was I particularly interested–it’s become increasingly clear that I just don’t care about anything much this show does and am now just running down the clock ’til its finished–not long now.
Is it cold in here?
Space Battleship Tiramisu Zwei (Episode 9)
This episode was a bit of a mixed bag, there were a lot of funny moments but likewise a lot of moments that fell flat. Though the stuff with the “haunted” area of space they were in, not only delivered the laughs but also felt genuinely creepy too–so kudos for that!
Nobody likes a spook.
Banana Fish (Episode 21)
More than any episode before the “formula” of this show felt especially apparent. By which I mean it seems like someone close to Ash (or Ash himself) gets kidnapped by bad guys, they kill and escape the bad guys, they hide out for a bit then rinse and repeat just with badder bad guys. It’s a shame because other than the tired repetitiveness of that set-up this was a pretty tense and exciting episode.
It me.
Ms. vampire who lives in my neighbourhood. (Episode 8)
The first half of this episode was a little bit dull–the whole “trying to do Summer break homework/don’t want to do Summer break homework” thing has been done before and done better. Though things pick up drastically in the second half as they visit my favourite place on Earth (Akihabara) and take in the otaku sights, shop for manga, play arcade games and visit a maid cafe–it’s all lovingly recreated and reverently presented and I was grinning the entire time!
“Heart!”
Boarding School Juliet (Episode 8)
New characters! Twin Chinese loli prefects Kocho and Teria and unsurprisingly they are adorable–what is surprising is how much I felt for their sad story of having know friends (I can relate, after all). There was a lot of really fun–and silly–moments in this episode and even though I think they shortchanged the Romio x Juliet moments in favour of prioritising the new characters it was still a great episode!
Double head pats, too lewd!
Skull-face Bookseller Honda-san (Episode 8)
As I mentioned in my previous mini-review of this I prefer the show when it focuses on the customer service aspect of the job and boy did they make up for it in this episode! Particular highlights were the “dealing with kids” moment, the father-son Naruto fans from Texas and the “draw me as Koala” part which all had me laughing out loud.
Filthy normies…
As Miss Beezlebub Likes (Episode 8)
Once again another episode that plays to the show’s strengths by utilising the much stronger ensemble cast over its two lacklustre mains (I promise I’ll stop complaining about the main characters on this show one day). The scenes at the Gossomer colab cafe were adorable and surprisingly relatable and now I totally ship Azazel and Sargatanas now… Oh and the second half of the episode is all about Beezlebub and best girl Belphegor (Gocchin) trying on bikins… so you know, paradise for this pervert! Seriously though, I never thought I’d like this show so much given how “meh” I was on the first few episodes but here we are!
And it was!
Zombie Land Saga (Dropped At Episode 2)
The Girl In Twilight (Dropped At Episode 4)
Watched But Not Reviewed (Fall 2018 Week 7)
A Rundown of the anime I watched but didn’t review in Week 7 of Fall 2018
Because this season I’m watching more shows but reviewing less of them week-to-week I figured it’d make sense to at least let you all keep tabs on my brief thoughts on each episode. Just because a show is here doesn’t mean it’s any less good than any other show, it just means I didn’t have enough to say about it to justify a full review! Also, I’ll try and refrain from spoilers where possible but will give warning if I do need to post a spoiler.
Week 7
Goblin Slayer (Episode 7)
If you didn’t see my tweet about it, you might have missed the fact that Goblin Slayer has been relegated to ‘Watched But Not Reviewed’ territory. The episode didn’t do anything specifically wrong, I was just sick of talking about it at length as my episodic reviews end up as rants anyway. This episode was pretty good, the action was gritty but technically impressive, the situation tense and the stakes suitably high. But the same issues I have with the series still stand and impact my overall enjoyment. Also I thought the final shot of the canaries eye went on for about 60 seconds too long though and almost made me want to write a rant about that by itself! Ahem, moving on…
Screencap of the action scenes? I don’t think so, this is all the action I need!
Space Battleship Tiramisu Zwei (Episode 8)
Not the strongest episode, the stuff with Subaru writing a manga was okay but likewise some of it fell flat. The second segment was kind of a one-note joke with a customer service robot being too helpful when all Subaru wanted was to get back to a battle however it got a few laughs from me.
It’s not often you’ll see a man’s bare butt on my site.
Banana Fish (Episode 20)
This episode was intense. If only every episode could carry this tonal consistency then I might actually like the show a lot more than I do. No matter how you look at it, it’s shaping up for a massive and impactful showdown in the coming episodes and I’m actually looking forward to it!
Those aren’t handles. Or are they?!
Ms. vampire who lives in my neighbourhood. (Episode 7)
Beach episode + vampire’s who can’t go in the sun and who are also afraid of water? What could possibly go wrong! Akari kind of acted a bit out of line here, which put me off-side with her, but they show didn’t let her off the hook too easy which was good. The second half of the episode was a lot stronger, but it was the after credits sequence which truly tugged on the heartstrings! I forgive you now, Akari!
Here’s some bikini service to balance out the man butt from before.
Boarding School Juliet (Episode 7)
Not as good as previous weeks, but considering the high quality of said weeks this show earned an off-day. Still very good quality entertainment, the imaginative and hilarious ways they kept showing Romio “dying” after reacting to something happening to him was a particular highlight. As was seeing Juliet in her Julio outfit, can’t get enough of that faux trap action!
Is this a meme?
Skull-face Bookseller Honda-san (Episode 7)
Probably the weakest episode so far, which is a shame as the two previous were quite strong–seems like there’s been a lot of that going around this week–anyway I seem to prefer this show when it focuses on the customer service part of the job rather than the behind the scenes stuff.
Best line of the episode, also very relatable.
As Miss Beezlebub Likes (Episode 7)
Unexpectedly, my least favourite show of the season (that I’m watching) delivers probably my favourite episode of the week. Though it does so by doing the one thing I was hoping it would do and focus on the ~strength~ of its ensemble cast rather than the weakness of its two romantic leads. But even then Beezlebub and Mullin were actually tolerable in this episode?!
Most exaggerated nosebleed react ever? Maybe.
Zombie Land Saga (Dropped At Episode 2)
The Girl In Twilight (Dropped At Episode 4)
Master Of Side Quests – ‘Goblin Slayer’ Episode 6 Review
Master Of Side Quests – An Anime QandA Review of Goblin Slayer Episode 6
What’s the show? Goblin Slayer, Episode 6.
So how’s this episode? Well the episode opens with a bunch of new characters we’ve never met facing off against a giant skeleton man who looks like he’s out of ‘Overlord’ and the heroes are a group of wisecracking, badass women and they rescue the damsel in distress and blow the shit out of the skeleton boss man and it’s legitimately the most interesting thing this series has done so far. And then we cut back to reality where one of the adventurers at the guild is telling that story. And I’m like “why can’t we be watching that show! That’s way more interesting than ~generic Goblin Slaying quest #426~”!
This screencap is very strange out of context.
Oh dear. Have you turned sour on the show again? Not exactly. I mean the show’s still good I suppose, I just don’t care about Goblin Slayer killing goblins. And I know what you’re thinking “well then why are you watching a show called ‘Goblin Slayer’ then?” And I don’t have a good answer to that! I think there’s just something incredibly limiting about a show that narrows its scope to what would amount to ~side quests~ in an RPG when there’s battles with Demon Lords going on elsewhere in the world. And I KNOW what you’re thinking, “didn’t you just say last week you’d watch a show that’s ~just~ set in an adventurer’s guild and is about the minutiae of everyday life in such an establishment?”! Yes. I did. I’m a complex individual, cut me some slack.
Come on elf, you can do better than Goblin Slayer…
I, uh… are you alright? Watching ‘Goblin Slayer’ is an exercise in frustration–it’s constantly doing so much right but then backs it up by doing a bunch of things poorly. Maybe I just don’t get this ~style~ of DnD anime. And that is what this is by the way, I had a commenter point out to me that the writer of the light novel is an avid DnD player and based this after one of his campaigns, and that’s fine, more power to him. But it feels like so strictly adhering to a DnD campaign and the whole “only slaying Goblins” shtick has robbed the show of some much needed scope. That said, I’m fully willing to eat my words when the group goes on that other non-goblin related quest that Goblin Slayer promised he would participate in. But it better make up for everything else, that’s all I’m saying.
Pirate goblins? Sure why not.
Okay, so ignoring external influences and promises of future “adventures” what are you thoughts on this episode? Is it good? Yes it’s ‘good’. That’s about as much as I can offer this episode is a hearty ‘good’. I liked that we got to meet the Sword Maiden, she seems… interesting. I like that some of the goblins where clothes and armour… guess that means our party has levelled up and is going against some tougher mobs. But it ain’t over as there’s the boss of the sewer level to contend with next week! Sorry if this comes off as snarky but other than baiting controversy in its first episode this series isn’t doing anything especially remarkable, not with its setting, not with its characters and not with its content. If it had been just another fantasy series amongst the throngs of other I probably would have been liking it a lot more, or at least more forgiving of it. But until it does something more substantial with its subject matter and characters, I’m just left with saying it’s ‘good’.
I like this blindfolded Sword Maiden! What? I swear it’s got nothing to do with the blindfold making me think of something kinky!
Slice (And Dice) Of Life – ‘Goblin Slayer’ Episode 5 Review
Slice (And Dice) Of Life – An Anime QandA Review of Goblin Slayer Episode 5
What’s the show? Goblin Slayer, Episode 5.
So how’s this episode? Goblin Slayer is a slice of life anime now.
Priestess got a level up from the previous episode’s adventures!
I know you’re exaggerating for effect but care to elaborate? With the exception of some ~unrelated~ adventures in a sewer with some peripheral characters we don’t care about battling against giant rats and bugs this episode is an exceedingly low-key affair dealing with Goblin Slayer and his “relationships” most specifically with Guild Girl. And you know what, I’m fine with that—I’m not fine with the fact that this show is so tonally inconsistent that I fully expected one of the giant sewer rats to rape the female adventurer—but if this show wants to focus on character development then by all means.
Protect this 2000 year old smile!
Okay then. So how’s it handled—the ‘character development’ I mean? It’s interesting at the very least, I like seeing the daily inner workings of the Adventurer’s Office—the scene where she had to deal with the adventurer who was expecting a promotion up a rank but instead was being exiled from the town for stealing loot meant for his whole party was great stuff. It was interesting too that Guild Girl mentioned the sexism she faced when working in the capital. I didn’t think this was the kind of series to even care about that so it was certainly a surprise. To be honest I could watch an entire series that’s just set an adventurer’s guild and never once deals with any action or adventure in the outside world—but then again I have weird taste.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen Guild Girl make that face before… pretty great to be honest!
You certainly do. So your overall thoughts on the episode? Forgetting for a second what this show is about and how dark it started you could be forgiven for thinking this a relatively light-hearted fantasy show if you just judged it from this. That’s bound to annoy some, heck even I think this show has tonal problems. But taken alone this particular episode was very enjoyable—at least for my particular preferences. I’d much rather rich backstory and character development then another episode of attacking and wiping out a goblin nest—no matter how satisfying it is to see in action.
Who needs a purse when you have cleavage storage?!
